the flowers of banana “amorosa” is studied for the constituents that may be responsible for the treatment of type-II diabetes mellitus. This study primarily aimed to perform phytochemical screening and pharmacological testing on a locally abundant plant that grows widely in the backyard of most houses in the province of Ilocos Notre commonly known as banana “amorosa” and scientifically known as Musa sapientum var. paradisiaca. Specifically, this experimental study determined the chemical constituents present in the flower using aqueous and alcoholic extractssuch as glycosides, tannins, saponins and alkaloids. Likewise, this study tried to determine the pharmacological effects of the two extracts on Albino rats as test animals in terms of its hypoglycemic activity. The experimental procedure was conducted at the Pharmacy Laboratory, College of Health Sciences, Batac, Ilocos Norte from August to October 2003.
