THE ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTY OF THE EXTRACTED CONSTITUENT FROM THE ROOTS OF COGON (IMPERATA cylindrical) AGAINST STAPHYLOCOCCUS aureus THESIS ADVISER: MRS. GEMMA C. VINLUAN
This research was conducted to determine the presence of alkaloid from the roots of cogon (Imperata cylindrical) as an antibacterial particularly to Staphylococcus aureus. Results have shown that alkaloid is present in the roots of cogon through Alkaloidal Screening. An ointment dosage form was made and was applied to the infected skin of the mice. Results shown that alkaloid is present in the roots of cogon through Alkaloidal Screening. Comparison between the Cogon Roots Ointment and the standard drug (Terramycin Ointment) was also undertaken. The standard drug was found to be more effective despite of equivalent concentration of the active in the cogon roots ointment.
