ABSTRACT AGAMANOS, JOANNE FREESCA A., GARAN, MYRAH F. 2020. Design and Evaluation of a Hot Pepper (Capsicum fruscens) Pulverizer Undergraduate Thesis College of Engineering, Mariano Marcos State University City of Batac 2906 locos Norte. 36 pp. Adviser: Dr. Reynold M. Caoili This study aimed to design a mechanized hot pepper pulverizing machine and evaluate its performance in terms of its pulverizing capacity and pulverizing efficiency. The design process included the identification of the machine part description and specifications of the materials used for fabrication. An electric motor was used as the main drive in operating the pulverizer. The machine weighs about 45 kgs. It has a base length, width and height of 60.96 cm, 60.96 cm and 60.96 cm, respectively. The designed model is simple, easy to operate, compact and made out of locally available materials. The model has a total cost of P13,500.00 Lastly, the mechanized hot pepper pulverizer showed an average pulverizing capacity of 2 kg/hr and a pulverizing efficiency of 84.53%. Farming is the primary source of income of the growers and some have secondary income like government support (4P's). Batanes is the common variety planted by 64% of the growers, since it produces large bulbs and bigger stalks. In a per hectare basis of multiplier onion production, a total of Php 30, 324 88 is incurred for variable cost (labor, material inputs and transportation) and Php 4, 500.00 for the fixed cost such as the land rent and with the total cost of Php 34, 824.88. Farmers usually allocate their produce for sale and for home consumption About 96% of their produce are sold in the market with the average price of Php 35.00 per kilogram. The gross income was Php 95,900.00 and the net income was Php 61, 075.12 Lack of financial resources, low yield and poor quality of produce are the common problems in production, while in marketing is the low price of the multiplier onion and presence of competitors.
