This study determined the prevalence and correlates of the use of herbal medicine in selected remote areas of Ilocos Norte. The descriptive-correlation research was employed to determine the correlates and prevalence of the use of the herbal medicines. The most frequently used herbal medicines in treating common illnesses like headache, cough and colds is oregano; for fever is lagundi; dizziness and toothache is malunggay; for wounds is banana; for diarrhea, is sambong; for rheumatism is ginger; and for allergy is akapulko. There is significant relationship between the respondents’ socio-demographic profile and the use of herbal medicines in treating the mentioned common illnesses. As to age, sex, educational attainment, occupation, and family income, the older the age, the lower the level of educational attainment, the lower the income, respectively, the greater the possibility of using herbal medicines in treating common illnesses.
