This thesis aimed to determine the effect of soda-lime glass (SLG) as
replacement to the coarse aggregate (gravel). The replacement ratio to the coarse
aggregate were 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% with a mix design of M15 grade that
has a proportion of 1:2:4 (cement:sand:coarse aggregate) with a standard compressive
strength of 15 megapascal (MPa). Additionally, the study evaluated the curing process
of the concrete with 7, 14, and 28 days, density of the concrete before and after the
curing process; and hydration process of the cement in the concrete through scanning
electron microscope (SEM) analysis, as these major factors affect the compressive
strength of the concrete aside of the ratio replacement SLG aggregate. The density of
the concrete decreased as the ratio replacement of the SLG increased. Therefore, the
compressive strength decreased as the replacement ratio of SLG increased. However,
F4 has higher strength than F3 in 28 curing days due to the alkali-silica reaction (ASR).
Moreover, the density of concrete in 7 curing days is higher than 28 curing days. Hence,
the factor of this is the hydration process of the concrete due to late development of
belite and early development of aluminate. These findings contribute to sustainable and
cost-effective construction practices.
