Summary, etc. ABSTRACT CADANG, MILAGROS R. Mariano Marcos State University. May 2019. IMPLEMENTATION OF DISASTER READINESS AND RISK REDUCTION (DRRR) IN THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS. Major Adviser: Dr. Natividad E. Lorenzo. This study determined the extent of implementation of Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction in the senior high schools of Claveria, Cagayan. The descriptive research utilized total enumeration with the seven Science teachers who responded to the questionnaire and purposive sampling with the student-participants in the focus group discussions (FGD) of public senior high school students of Claveria West District of the Division of Cagayan during the school year 2018-2019. The mean ratings of the teachers’ responses were obtained, analyzed and presented. The student’s responses to question asked in the focus groups discussions were used to support the teacher’s responses. Themes were drawn from the FGD results. The findings of the study revealed that, as the teachers perceived it the DRRR lessons were very highly implemented with regard to learning competencies developed and content standards followed, which were affirmed by the positive responses of the FGD participants. The students were grateful for the concepts and skills they acquired on disaster education which they can use to prepare, mitigate, adapt and respond to the damaging effects of disasters. They also hoped this will elevate the public awareness on disaster, which hopefully reduce the numbers of victims caused by disasters. The teachers’ concerns on the implementing the DRRR subject in the senior high school curriculum are the following: lack of instructional materials in teaching DRRR, seminars and trainings fund to finance school activities related to this subject what will help in raising awareness on disaster and too many competencies’ to cover a short period of time. Thus, the very high level of implementation of the DRRR learning lessons with regard to competencies developed and content standards followed is an affirmation of the aim of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management ( NDRRM) Framework which is to build a safer, adaptive and resilient Filipino community toward sustainable development.
