Rosales A supervised farming on hot pepper was established in Brgy. Quibel, Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte on November 6, 2018 to April 9, 2019 with a duration of 154 days. The project was conducted to determine the growth and yield performance of hot pepper using the package of technology adapted from PCARRD; and to evaluate the profitability, identify the problems encountered during the production stage; and apply the skills and values for successful hot pepper production. One can (20g) of hot pepper seeds was sown in a 3m seedbed and transplanted the 39-day old seedlings following the planting distance of 0.5m between plants and 0.75m between rows. Immediate irrigation was done after transplanting. A total of 10 kg complete fertilizer was applied at 15 and 30 days after transplanting (DAT) at a rate of Sg hill". At 60 DAT, five kg urea at a rate of 10g hill was applied. Irrigation was done every after-fertilizer application. Seven times irrigation was done at the vegetative stage and five times at the reproductive stage. Twenty-five ppm of GAZ was sprayed at 30, 60 and 90 DAT. Infestation of ladybird beetle, and ants were observed at 101 days after sowing or 62 DAT and leaf curls were observed at 106 DAS or 67 DAT. Chemical insecticide was sprayed to manage the ladybird beetle, ants and no control strategy to manage leaf curl. As the crop mature, the plant becomes taller from 30.7 cm to 72.9 cm. The plants produced flowers at 90 days from sowing or 51 DAT. First harvesting was done at 109 DAS or 70 DAT and last harvesting was done at 154 DAS or 115 DAT. The plants had 45 productive days. Each plant produced 466 fruits, and a kilogram of hot pepper contains 287 fruits. All the produce was marketable, hence the total produce was sold from PhP80,00 to Php200.00 per kilogram. The produce was sold to neighborhood and food establishments. The bulk of produce was sold to Pagudpud public market. An amount of PhP 6985.00 was spent in the production of hot pepper and the project gained a good return of 60.60%. The values developed and applied during the conduct of the project were patience, sense of responsibility, initiative and honesty which helped the student- entrepreneur to perform all the activities from field to marketing.
