EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ZUNIGA, PATRICK RENZ RAMOS. 2019. Supervised Farming Project
on Broiler Production Using Malunggay Leaf Extract as Water Additive.
Supervised Farming Project. College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable
Development. Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, 2906 Ilocos Norte.
45pp.
Adviser: Ms. Joan R. Rarogal

The supervised farming project on broiler production was conducted at Brgy.
23, Dipilat, Vintar, Ilocos Norte. Broiler chickens were reared for two production
cycles using Malunggay Leaf Extract (MLE) as a water additive. The first production
cycle was conducted from January 16, 2019 - February 17, 2019 and February 16, 2019
- March 20, 2019 for the second production cycle. One hundred heads of broiler were
reared for each cycle supplemented with 90 ml of MLE to 1 li of water after the
brooding stage. The production management practices followed were based on the
Philippine Recommends for Broiler Production.
Results showed that broilers with MLE as water additive via the drinking water
in the 1st cycle had a final weight of 1.59 kg bird, average daily gain weight of 0.044
kg, total gain in weight of 1.53 kg/bird, and feed conversion efficiency of 1.79 kg/bird.
While in the 2nd cycle, a final weight of 1.52 kg/bird, average daily gain weight of 0.046
kg/bird, total gain in weight of 1.43 kg/bird, feed conversion efficiency of 1.71 kg/bird
were obtained The cost of production in the first cycle was Php 12,955.35 and in the second
cycle was Php 12,142.71 with a total expense of Php 25,098.06. The birds offered with
MLE as a water additive in the first cycle had a gross income of Php 18,751.00 and Php
19,066.00 in the second cycle. The net income incurred in the first cycle were Php
5,795.65 and Php 6,923.29 in the second cycle with a total of Php 12,718.94. The return
on investment (ROI) were 44.74% and 57.02% in the first and second cycle,
respectively
The problems encountered were the weather condition and poor quality of
chicks. Giving additional source of heat, at least 25-watt bulb during cold weather was
the solution made. During hot weather, additional amount of water was provided to the
broiler chickens to regulate their body temperature and to avoid heat stroke. On the
other hand, poor quality chicks were observed during the first cycle which caused high
mortality. Thus, purchasing chicks for the second cycle at another farm supply was
considered
The values developed and technical know-how acquired includes the proper
construction of poultry house, proper amount of feeds given to the chicken also with
the importance of cleaning, recording and marketing. The values developed for each
technical know-how acquired are resourcefulness, preciseness, honesty, patience,
friendly, and awareness.

|
