Vidad<br/><br/> This supervised farming project on broiler production using duhat (Syzygium<br/>cumini) leaf decoction was implemented to validate its profitability as an animal<br/>enterprise. Specifically, the project aimed to generate data on growth and productio<br/>parameters, assess the cost and return of broiler production: generate income for the<br/>student - entrepreneur, identify the problems encountered during the production, and<br/>identify the skills enhanced and values developed.<br/> The project was implemented at Brgy. # 6- A Morong, Badoc, Ilocos Norte on<br/>February 09 to April 04, 2019. The project consisted of two (2) overlapping cycles<br/>which lasted for 28 and 35 days for cycle one (1) and cycle two (2), respectively with<br/>100 heads loading capacity.<br/>Production parameters were gathered to support the profitability aspect of the<br/>project.<br/> The recorded final weight of the birds was 1.80 kg and 1.6 kg while the<br/>average daily gains were 0.06 kg and 0.04 kg, for cycle 1 and 2, respectively. A 96 %<br/>percent harvest recovery was recorded for both cycles and 179.7 kg<br/>153.6 kg total<br/>harvest weight for cycle one (1) and two (2), respectively. The birds exhibited 1.4 kg and 1.58 kg feed conversion ratio and incurred a<br/>feed cost per kilogram gain of Php 41.78 and Php 42.91 for cycles 1 and 2,<br/>respectively. In terms of financial performance of the project, it obtained a gross<br/>income of Php 40,166 for both cycles while Php 29,505.8 was recorded for project<br/>expenses. For this, the project generated a net income of Php 10,660.2 for the student<br/>- entrepreneur for 63 days. A 36.13% return on investment was realized. The break-<br/>even yield and break-even price were 122.71 and 123.17 kg and Php 81.94 pesos and<br/>Php 96.23 pesos for cycles one (1) and two (2), respectively.<br/>entrepreneur enhanced her skills in rearing<br/> Aside from these, the student<br/>broiler brooding, feeding techniques, waste management, proper sanitation and<br/>disinfection and innovative marketing via social media. Aside from the skills, values<br/>were developed including resourcefulness, wise, keen observer and patience.<br/>Lastly, broiler production at backyard level is a profitable enterprise that<br/>provides income in a short period of time.<br/> |
