EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
TAGAVILLA, MILDRED A. 2019. Supervised Farming Project on
Broiler Production Using 1% Oregano Leaf Meal as Feed Supplement.
Supervised Farming Project. College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable
Development. Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, 2906 Ilocos Norte. 43
PP
Adviser: Ms. Joan R. Rarogal

This supervised farming project was carried out to validate the profitability of
broiler production using 1% oregano leaf meal. Specifically, the project aimed to:
determine the growth performance of broilers using the package of technology
adopted from Dumale (2013) with his study entitled, "Growth Performance of Broiler
Fed with Varying Levels of Oregano Leaf Meal", evaluate the profitability of broiler
production using 1% Oregano Leaf Meal (OLM) as feed supplement, identify the
problems encountered during the production period, and identify the skills and values
developed during the conduct of the project.
The project was implemented at Barangay 27-A, Pungto, Bacarra, Ilocos
Norte, involving two production cycles from January 28 to April 7, 2019. One
hundred heads of cobb broilers were reared for 28 to 30 days with the target weight of
1.5 kg per head. The management practices employed were based on the Philippine
Recommends for Broiler Production (2004). Along with the good animal husbandry
practices, the project utilized feed supplementation of OLM which serve as an
antibiotic and to enhance the growth performance of broiler chickens.
The total gain in weight and average daily gain in weight of the broiler in the
first cycle was 1.505 kg and 0.054 kg, and in the second cycle was 1.60 kg and 0.53
kg, respectively. The final weight was 1.55 kg in the first cycle and 1.65 kg in the
second cycle.
The average feed consumption per bird were 2.25 kg and 2 kg for the first and
second cycle, respectively. Moreover, the feed cost per kilogram gain was Php 43,61
in the first cycle and Php 35.63 in the second cycle of the production.
Marketing of the broilers was done on live weight basis. The product was sold
to the customers within the student-entrepreneur's neighborhood. The price was
based on the prevailing price of live broiler in the market per kg which is Php. 120.00
in both first and second cycle.
The project incurred a total net income of Php 6,620.00 in the first cycle and
Php 7,604.00 in the second cycle and with a return on investment of 63.88% for the
two production cycles.
The values developed and technical know-how acquired on broiler production
include the constructing of the poultry house, cleaning and disinfecting the broiler
house, feeding management, collecting of oregano leaves, collecting the broiler
manure and selling of the product. The values developed for each technical know-
how acquired are carefulness, patience, resourcefulness, cleanliness, keen observer,
initiative and being friendly.

|
