EXECUTIVE SUMMARY<br/>ORTAL, FEBY JANE P. 2019. On-The-Job Training (OJT) in Animal<br/>Science. Terminal Report. College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development<br/>Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac 2906, Ilocos Norte. 76 pp.<br/>Adviser: Ms. Sharmila DL. Ramchand<br/><br/> On-the-Job Training (OJT) is designed to acquire knowledge and experience<br/>through practical exposures to projects and programs, develop the students' confidence.<br/>and build a healthy competition with others. With this, there were two agencies wherein<br/>the student-trainee was deployed and she rendered a total of 560 hours.<br/>The student-trainee rendered 280 working hours at the Department of<br/>Agriculture-Ilocos Norte Research and Experiment Center (DA-INREC) from January<br/>14 to March 1, 2019. DA-INREC is located in Brgy. Cali, Dingras, Ilocos Norte, and<br/>is engaged in the production of small and large ruminants for research and dispersal<br/>purposes. The student-trainee was able to enhance her knowledge and skills through<br/>hands-on activities in feeding management including mixing of concentrates, feeding<br/>of roughages and concentrates, silage making, health management such as vitamin<br/>supplementation, antibiotic administration, uterex administration, deworming, blood<br/>and fecal sample collection, other husbandry practices such as wool shearing, hoof<br/>trimming, ear tagging, forage establishment and management, and waste management.<br/> On the other hand, the student-trainee also rendered 280 working hours in<br/>Provincial Veterinary Office which is subdivided into three stations namely, Pasuquin Breeding Center, Provincial Veterinary Office, and Animal Quarantine Station. The<br/>student-trainee was able to enhance her knowledge and skills through hands-on<br/>activities in feeding management, breeding management, sow and litter management,<br/>health management such as iron supplementation, hog cholera vaccination,<br/>mycoplasma vaccination, and calcium supplementation, waste management, and<br/>bokashi production. For the poultry production, the student-trainee experienced egg<br/>collection and sorting, incubation process, harvesting newly hatched egg, and<br/>marketing of chicks and eggs. The student-trainee experienced preparation for the<br/>capitol express, blood collection and swabbing, and vaccinate anti-rabies in the<br/>Provincial Veterinary Office. <br/> And at the Animal Quarantine Station, the student-trainee<br/>participated in the inspection all incoming and outgoing meat, meat by products,<br/>processed meat and live animals.<br/>The student-trainee learned to be more punctual especially in feeding. Have the<br/>commitment to do work, having determination. She also learned how to be more<br/>patient, observant, vigilant and honest in socializing with people.<br/><br/> |
