College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development, Mariano<br/>Marcos State University, City of Batac, 2906 Ilocos Norte. 39 pp.<br/>Adviser: Sheena Marie Joy P. Lidora<br/> This practicum on broiler production was conducted at Brgy. San Miguel, San<br/>Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, from February 13, 2019 to April 05, 2019. The<br/>student-entrepreneurs raised one hundred (100) heads of chickens in one growing cycle<br/>for 35-51 days. The project aimed to provide the student-entrepreneurs an actual<br/>experience in the management of a broiler production project. Specifically, it aimed to<br/>provide a working experience on the operation of a small-scale entrepreneurship both<br/>in technical and marketing aspects, determine the profitability of broiler production,<br/>provide income to the student-entrepreneurs and help the student-entrepreneurs gain<br/>skills and values relevant in managing a broiler project.<br/>The broiler chickens were fed with commercial feed and their drinking water<br/>was supplemented with vitamins (electrogen, digestiade and vetracin). The project had<br/>a mortality of 10% due to the unfavorable environment and obtained a final weight of<br/>1.5 kg/bird at the 35 day.<br/>In marketing, the student-entrepreneurs advertised the product through social<br/>media, word of mouth and marketed through personal selling. The product was sold in<br/>a live weight and dressed at P120.00/kg and P160.00/kg, respectively. The products were disposed to the residents or families in the locality and workers at Child<br/>Development Center (compassion)<br/> The total cost of production of the project was Php 14, 034.38 while the gross<br/>income was Php 17,314.00. The project has a net income of Php 3,279.63. The return<br/>on investment (ROI) of the project was 23.37%. The break-even price (BEP) of the<br/>project was 98.52%, while the break-even yield was 116.95%<br/>Throughout the production of the project, the student-entrepreneurs<br/>encountered several problems namely the changes of weather and the bad odor of the<br/>chicken manure which was quickly solved by them. Though they encountered such<br/>problems along the project, they also gained experience and developed values and<br/>skills. The student-entrepreneurs realized that there is an income even in a small scale.<br/>Moreover, they developed skills and knowledge on how to manage broiler production.<br/>Likewise, they developed the characteristics of being resourceful, wise, patient and<br/>honest individual. Lastly, they also developed their communication as well as<br/>management skills.<br/> |
