Summary, etc. ABSTRACT AGANUS, JOSEPH B. and DUGAY NEIL KENNETH M 2020, Detection of E. coli in MMSU Water Supply System. Undergraduate Thesis College of Engineering. Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac Adviser: Dr. Virgilio Julius P Manzano Jr Water is one of the significant necessities of humans to be able to live Therefore, there is a dire need to ensure safe drinking water. Hence, the study was conducted to analyze the water samples in terms of the presence of e-coli, determined Colony Forming Units (CFU's) and were compared to DENR standard, and recommended strategies to enhance MMSU's water supply quality Data and parameters were gathered through laboratory protocols in the presumptive test, the water samples were injected to lauryl tryptose broth, forming gas bubbles through incubation. The test tubes containing gas bubbles were scattered in confirmatory through Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) agar, which develops green metallic sheen, then is subjected to nutrient agar as culture media. The gram staining technique signified gram-negative (rod shape and reddish or purple), verify the presence of E. coli. The coliform test results and the confirmatory analysis show the positive presence of E. coli in different college sites, administration building, cafeterias, and housing (CORDS). The corroboration of coli was based on the findings of the gram staining technique, which shows Bacillus Cram). A microbial count on Colony Forming Units (CFU) wm done to measure the number of viable bacteria present in collected water samples and compared to DENR standards The results exceeded the DENR tolerable limits. This indicate that the water supply system of MMSU is med intended for drinking Nonetheless, it can be used for cooking, washing and other recreational activities To improve the quality of MMSU's water supply system, the researchers suggested some strategies and concepts, namely: 1) provision of covers to all reservoir/tanks. 2) replace all old piping networks, 3) provision of chlonne into the distribution points, and 4) creation of a dedicated staff for the water supply system.
