Summary, etc. ABSTRACT
Expansion of summary note Alkaloids are of pharmaceutically importance. This is the primary reason why studies regarding alkaloids must be given emphasis. However, some plant sources that contain alkaloids are not yet utilized and developed, therefore, identification and extraction of the alkaloids from the fresh leaves of aroma was made. The study focused on the extractiob and identification of the constituents of the fresh leaves of the aroma, Acacia farnesiana (Family Mimosaceae) as an antiseptic agent using Soxhlet methods of extraction and then separation by distillation. The crude drug obtained were subjected to physical and chemical tests. Based on the results, alkaloids is present in the fresh leaves of aroma and the percentage yield is 28.25 percent. The therapeutic value as to its antiseptic effect was tested on Swiss mice and compared to standard, Povidone-Iodine. The need for further studies on the alkaloid content of the aroma leaves recommended, formulation of dosage forms and also extensive studies on its effectivity as an antiseptic agent.
