EXTRACTION OF ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS FROM THE FRESH LEAVES OF JATROPHA CURCAS, LINN (TUBANG BAKOD) AS AN ANTIFUNGAL AGENTS.
THESIS ADVISER: MRS. GEMMA C. VINLUAN
This study investigated the fungicidal property of Jatropha curcas against the three microbes such as tinea capitis, tinea corporis, and tinea pedis. The most effective against the microbes and the minimum inhibition concentration to inhibit the growth were determined. All of the experimental set-up was compared with the standard drug Miconazole. The pre-experimental research desin was employed in the study to determine the effect of of Jatropha curcasleaves extract against the three fungi. The active constituents of of Jatropha curcas that can inhibit the growth of fungi were the alkaloids, tannins, saponon glycosides, and resins. Likewise, fatty acids essentials for the formulation of drugs were also present in the leaves extract. The standard drug was the most effective against tinea capitis, tinea corporis, and tinea pedis as compared to any of the concentration of the of Jatropha curcas leaves extract. Moreover, the 100% concentration of the leaves extract was the most effective agent against tinea pedis. Both tine capitis and tines corporis were greatly inhibited by the 75% concentration. All the different concentrations used in this study together with the standard drug showed antifungal property. The study revealed that the minimum concentration that can inhibit the growth of fungi was the 25%.
