Summary, etc. ABSTRACT VICENTE, PEARL ANGELINE T. 2021. Production Management Practices of the Sheep Dispersal Project Beneficiaries of the Province of Ilocos Norte: An Input for Backyard Sheep Enterprise. Thesis Manuscript. College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development, Mariano Marcos State University. Batac City 2906 Ilocos Norte. 59 pp. Adviser: Ms. Sheena Marie Joy P. Lidora The study was conducted to know the management practices of the Sheep Dispersal beneficiaries (SDP) in selected towns in Ilocos Norte. Specifically, it aimed to determine the following: socio-demographic and farm/economic profile of the SDP beneficiaries; knowledge level of the SDP beneficiaries on sheep raising, management practices of the SDP beneficiaries on sheep raising, relationship between the socio-demographic, farm/economic, knowledge level of the SDP beneficiaries, and management practices, and, the problems encountered by the SDP beneficiaries. The respondents of the study were the Sheep Dispersal beneficiaries of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Ilocos Norte who resides in Carasi, Dingras, San Nicolas, City of Batac and Currimao. The data were gathered through an interview schedule and were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, ranges and means, and correlation analysis. The beneficiaries were mostly at their middle age, females, married, and belong to small household size. Majority were high school graduates, and their source of information on sheep production is from their own knowledge. The respondents' knowledge level is low due to lack of trainings, seminars and related activities in terms of sheep production. Majority of the respondents followed crossbreeding and have bred their sheep at 6 months old. Most respondents have two lambs raised for every lambing, with a birth weight of 1-2 kg. Lambing usually occurs only once a year. Most of the respondents provided a house for their sheep and used free grazing during the dry season and pure confinement during wet season, and grazed in an area with below 1,000 m². The respondents feed and give water to the sheep one to three times a day. Only 20% of the beneficiaries practice shearing, and only half of them practice deworming. Same percent (20%) of the respondents practice burying as their way of disposing animals. The management practices of the respondents was found to be significantly correlated with sex, educational attainment, sources of information, annual income and number of years of experience. The knowledge level on sheep production was also correlated to breeding, housing and feeding management practices.
