Calixto The study was conducted to design a detachable strainer, to test and evaluate the performance of the machine using three different diameter holes of detachable strainer in terms of efficiency, capacity, and particle size distribution, and assess the economic viability of the leaf shredder, The model was simple, easy to operate and made out of locally available materials, the size of detachable strainer has a height, length and width of 7.30 cm, 33.40 cm, and 33 cm, respectively. The machine itself has a height, length and width of 118 cm, 52 cm, and 41 cm, respectively. The computed maximum power requirement of the machine was 1.14 hp. The model has an overall cost of P22,605. Results of the study revealed that the model is capable of shredding dry leaves at 17.46 kilogram per hour with a shredding efficiency of 94.74 percent at a shaft speed of 1790 rev/ min. The average particle size of leaves coming out from (1/2" diameter) was 0.121 inch while in (3/8" and " diameter) was 0.076 inch and 0.085 inch, respectively. The best to use when shredding was 7-inch diameter of strainer hole. The economy viability using the annual cost method revealed that owning the machine is justified when it will be used to shred 152.95 tons per year.
