Expansion of summary note Bartido, Jhon Alvin G., Rebaula, Anabelle S., Vergara, Nenita C., , Undergraduate Thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, City of Batac 2906, Ilocos Norte. March 2010. Mosquito Repellant Action Of Talisay (Terminalla Catappa) Leaf Extract Adviser: Augustus Caesar C. Pati
The study aimed to investigate the mosquito repellent effect of talisay leaf extract. This study used experimental research using quantitative analysis to determine the effectiveness of the crude extract obtained from the leaves of talisay. The crude extracts obtained from the leaves of talisay were subjected to phytochemical screening wherein glycosides and tannins were found to be present in the leaves. Mosquitoes used in the study were assigned randomly in five groups (T1-90% TLE), (T2-70% TLE), (T3-50%TLE), (T4-Off lotion), (T5-Distilled water). The three different levels of concentration of the talisay leaf extract are effective in repelling mosquitoes but the higher the concentration the better the result. Based from the gathered date, comparing the mean percentages of the number of mosquito that repelled, it can be inferred from the results of the Least significant difference (LSD) that the mean percentages of mosquitoes that were repelled from the skin applied with T1 (90% TLE), T2 (70% TLE), T3 (50%TLE), and T4 (Off lotion) are not significantly different but they are all significantly different than the mean percentage of mosquitoes that repelled from the skin treated with T5 (Distilled water). This means that T1, T2, T3, and T4 are equally effective in repelling mosquitoes and that they are more effective than T5. This implies that the mosquito repellent action of Talisay leaf extract is as effective as the commercial Off-lotion and that the higher concentration, the more effective it becomes.
