Insecticidal and disinfectant activity of Patani (Phaseous lunatus L.) Leaf extract. Undergraduate Thesis. College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy. Mariano Marcos State University Batac City 2906 Ilocos Norte. 58pp
Adviser: Ma. Danica Ines Ramil
This study is conducted to determine the insecticidal and disinfectant activity of Patani (Phaseous lunatus L.) Leaf extract (PLE). The study was done to serve as initial investigations in the potential of Patani for more acceptance and effective natural products for the control of insects and bacteria.
This study used the experimental method of research specially the static group comparison design wherein the insecticidal activity of PLE was investigated in a comparison with the positive control (Baygon) and negative control (80% Ethanol) and mortality rate was used as parameter. Om the other hand the disinfectant activity of PLE was evaluated through bacterial growth using phenol coefficient and time of no bacterial growth as parameters. The crude extracts were subjected to confirmatory test for the establishments of the verification of the presence of glycosides.
To test the insecticidal activity of Patani leaf extract, cockroaches, mosquitoes and houseflies were utilized. Fifteen (15) each of the test insects were used. On the other hand, three selected bacteria (E, coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus) were used test the disinfectant activity of Patani leaf extract.
Based from the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that glycosides was present in the Patani (Phaseous lunatus L.) Leaf extract. The PLE was found effective in killing mosquitoes comparable to the commercial Baygon spray and has the potential to control cockroaches and flies. Further results of the study showed that PLE as disinfectant was effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and has potential in killing Escherichia coli.
After the results of the study have been analyzed and interpreted, the researchers would like to recommend further study using other parts of the plant, a follow-up study must be done on the insecticidal and disinfectant activity of PLE and toxicity study should be performed.
|
