Summary, etc. This study investigated the road surface at the Laoag-Sarrat-Piddig-Solsona Road, Ilocos Norte specifically stations 492+000 to 493+500. More precisely, it sought to investigate whether the road surface roughness is caused by the bitumen percentage or the compressive strength of the road surface, and if there is a relationship between the compressive strength and the bitumen percentage. The road surface roughness was tested through RoadRoid. Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) specification was used to evaluate the roughness index of the surface and compared to the results gathered through American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) tests conducted such as the Compressive Strength of Asphalt Mixtures and Quantitative Extraction of Bitumen from Bituminous Paving Mixtures. Two samples are gathered at each road condition at each lane through ASTM D5361. Results showed that the majority of the road has “Bad” surface condition. The compressive strength of the samples gathered averaged 394.075 psi, and the Bitumen percentage averaged to 4.21 percent. The compressive strength and bitumen percentage do not affect the road surface roughness, while there is a significant relationship between the compressive strength and bitumen percentage. For further studies it is recommended to check for available documents on the construction method and overlay of the road span. Future researchers may also conduct traffic density assessment, skid resistance test, field permeability tests, and explore innovative methods for enhancing aggregates’ affinity for asphalt in asphalt mixtures.
