Summary, etc. |
The seismic assessment and structural analysis of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) building aim to evaluate its structural integrity and resilience to seismic activities. This study addresses the critical need for ensuring the safety of educational facilities in earthquake-prone areas. The research involved a comprehensive review of architectural plans, material properties, and load definitions, followed by detailed structural modeling and analysis using STAAD Pro software. The primary problem addressed is the building's vulnerability to seismic forces, given its location near active fault lines in the Philippines. Data was meticulously collected, organized, and integrated into a centralized database, encompassing floor plan models, STAAD Pro analysis results, and field observations. Material properties were determined based on building codes and standards, and load definitions included dead, live, and earthquake loads. The structural analysis considered various load scenarios to assess the building's response and identify potential vulnerabilities. The results indicate specific structural weaknesses and suggest retrofit measures to enhance the building's seismic performance. Key findings highlight the importance of accurate material property definitions and the effectiveness of STAAD Pro in optimizing structural configurations and ensuring compliance with design codes. Recommendations include prioritizing retrofit measures for identified vulnerabilities, further studies for detailed soil data, and the implementation of sustainable design practices. In conclusion, the application of STAAD Pro for the seismic assessment of the MMSU CBEA building proved effective, providing valuable insights into the building's structural behavior under seismic loads. |
