Summary, etc. The study investigated the wave conditions of tropical cyclones along the <br/>coastline of Ilocos Norte, Philippines, a region highly vulnerable to climate change. <br/>Historical data from PAGASA and Gumbel’s formula were used to calculate the return <br/>periods of cyclones from 1960 to 2022. The Simulating Waves Nearshore (SWAN) and <br/>Geographic Information System (GIS) were employed to calculate and produce maps <br/>showing simulated wave conditions, including maximum significant wave height, <br/>wave period, and a wave rose diagram.<br/>Findings indicate that a storm similar to tropical cyclone Narsing is expected <br/>every five years with a maximum significant wave height of 4.14 meters and a wave <br/>period of 7.02 seconds, predominantly affecting the municipalities of Burgos and <br/>Bangui; Herming every ten years with a maximum significant wave height of 5.25 <br/>meters and a wave period of 7.79 seconds, impacting Burgos, Bangui, and Pagudpud; <br/>Osang every 25 years with a maximum significant wave height of 3.77 meters and a <br/>wave period of 6.98 seconds near Burgos; Iliang every 50 years a wave height of 5.44 <br/>meters and a period of 7.89 seconds near Pagudpud; and Trining every 100 years with <br/>a significant wave height of 5.20 meters and a period of 7.92 seconds near Badoc and <br/>Pinili. Based on these conditions, recommended seawall heights were calculated, <br/>ranging from 7 to 9.4 meters for most areas, with specific variations for each cyclone <br/>event. This study highlights the typhoon-induced wave conditions and provides <br/>valuable insights for coastal resilience and disaster preparedness in Ilocos Norte.
