The study was conducted in Brgy. Ar-arusip, Badoc, Ilocos Norte from August 1 to October 1, 2023, to evaluate the growth performance of Pekin ducks fed with Processed Black Soldier Fly Larvae (PBSFL). Specifically, the study aimed to determine the effects of using free-choice PBSFL as feed supplements on the growth performance of duck in terms of average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and dressing percentage. It also aimed to determine the morbidity and mortality rates of Pekin ducks fed with free choice PBSFL and assess the cost and return analysis of raising ducks using PBSFL as feed supplement. A total of 60 head Pekin ducklings, were purchased about 14 days old, brooded and acclimatized for one week prior to the introduction of the treatments. Ten heads were randomly distributed to two treatments with three replications following the Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The feeding of the experimental diets was done after the brooding period. The growth performance and economic related parameters were gathered and calculated using the STAR software.The initial weight, weight at week one to three, week five, seven, eight, final weight, gross income, and total feed consumption of Pekin ducks fed with or without PBSFL were similar. On the other hand, Pekin ducks fed with or without processed black soldier fly larvae had significantly different total gain in weight, average daily gain, weights on week four and five, feed conversion ratio, dressing percentage and performance efficiency factor.<br/>A higher gross income was obtained from Pekin ducks fed with PBSFL amounting to PhP 8,868.00, compared to those fed with commercial feeds, which amounted to Php 8,347.00. Birds fed with or without PBSFL had a net income of Php 223.00 and Php 181.50, respectively, with a return on investment of 2.74% and 2.09%.<br/> |
