| Summary, etc. |
The study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary supplementation of
piper betle (Piper siriboa L.) leaf meal (PBLM) in a corn-soya based diet for Class B
Cobb broiler chickens. Specifically, the study aimed to: determine the feed
consumption, gain in weight, feed conversion ratio, feed cost per kilogram gain, weight
of the internal organs, and profitability and performance efficiency factor (PEF) of
broilers. The study was conducted at Sitio Sabi-Sabi East Brgy. 32, Palongpong, City
of Batac, Ilocos Norte from October 4 to November 13, 2023. A total of 12 cages,
housing nine (9) heads of chicks, served as the experimental units and were randomly
distributed to four treatments with three replications following the Completely
Randomized Design (CRD). The feeding of the experimental diets at 4 g, 8 g, and 12
g per kilogram diet inclusion rate was done after the brooding stage.
Statistical analysis revealed that birds fed with corn-soya-based diets without
and with different levels of PBLM have similar weekly feed consumption and growth
parameters on Class B Cobb broilers. Likewise, the feed conversion ratio, performance
efficiency factor, total sales, net income, return on investment and weight of the internal
organs were not statistically affected by the addition of PBLM. However, numerically,
birds fed with 12g PBLM had the highest gross income, net income and return on
investment. |
