The study focused on the extraction of Carica papaya using soxhlet method of extractions then separation by distillation. The percentage yield of the extract was determinded as well as confirmatory test, physical and chemical constants, were also done. The extract was utilized in the formulation of syrup and tested its potency as a laxative. Based on the results, tannins are present in the extracts out from papaya leaves and that the percentage yield is only 18%. Its physical and chemical constants were determined for the purpose of identification and standardization. The dosage form was tested for its stability and its laxative effect on swiss mice. Further studies on papaya leave extract is recommended, other dosage form be formulated, and also extenive studies on its effectivity as laxative.
