Dutdut The Bangkal (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract has been evaluated for its ability as anti-ulcerogenetic property in fifteen (15) aspirin-induced male guinea pigs. the study was also conducted to determine the different constituents present in the plant sample through phytochemical screening. results show that (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, condensed tannins, carbohydrates, proteins and volatile oils. Aspirin was administered to the test animals to induce ulcer. different doses (150mg/kg, 300mg/kg and 600mg/kg) of (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract were used in the preliminary screening to determine which of the doses possess the best anti-ulcerogenic property. Results showed that 600 mg/kg was the most effective dose in the prliminary screening and this was used in the final screening. Three treatment groups were utilized in the study. T1 was treated with ranitidine, T2 with distilles water and T3 was treated with 600 mg/kg BFE. Statistical analysis revealed that there are no significant differences between T1 (Ranitidine) and T3 (BFE Extract). This means that the (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract has a comparable anti-ulcerogenic property with the positive control T1 (Ranitide) and that these two treatments are significantly better than the T2 (distilled water). Moreover, following reccommendations are offered: (1) Further studies using other test animals models should be done to validate the ant-ulcerogenic property of (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract. (2) A study of anti-ulcerogenic property of (Nauclea orientalis) fruit extract should be conducted on humans. (3) A study should be done by counting the lessions and measuring the lessions in the stomach under the microscope for further study. (4) Other parts of Bangkal plants should be examined for any medical uses.
