INSECTICIDAL ACTIVITY OF KAUAYAN (BAMBUSA SPINOSA ROXB.) VINEGAR AGAINST HEAD LICE Adviser: Anabelle L. Bernardo; Co-adviser: Janelyn Viado-Rojas This study was conducted to determine the pediculicida; action of Kauayan Vinegar formulations (KVFs) against head live (Pediculus humanus capitis). It also determined the most effective concentration that have the highest mortality in the test insect. The experimental researcg design was employed to study the cause and effect of different KVF’s to head lice. The Kauayan Vinegar was diluted with distilled water in order to obtain 30%, 50% and 60% concentrates. Adult head lice were collected from the heads of heavily infested grade school children in Payao Elementary School few minutes before treatment. The test insects were sorted out leaving only the adult Pediculus humanus capitis. Five (5) adult head lice were placed in each Petri dish. There were five (%) treatments in 3 replications: T1- 30%, T2-50%, T3-60% AND T4-Positive control (LICEALIZ). It was observed on different time intervals: 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 15 minutes. Results of the study revealed that the different concentrations (30%, 50%, 60%) of Kauayan Vinegar Formulation had significant effect against head lice. Mortality of the test insect sprayed with KVF increased with increasing concentration. Highest pediculicidal action of the most effective formulation (60%) was observed even at the shortest span of time (5 minutes) with 100% mortality likewise with the 10 minutes and 10 minutes of exposure which is comparable to the Positive control (LICEALIZ).
