EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

PAGUIRIGAN, JEZZA MAY A. and RAGUTERO, ELLA MAE A. 2019.
Broiler Production in Brgy. San Miguel, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. Practicum
Terminal Report. College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development, Mariano
Marcos State University, City of Batac, 2906 Ilocos Norte. 39 pp.
Adviser: Sheena Marie Joy P. Lidora
This practicum on broiler production was conducted at Brgy. San Miguel, San
Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, from February 13, 2019 to April 05, 2019. The
student-entrepreneurs raised one hundred (100) heads of chickens in one growing cycle
for 35-51 days. The project aimed to provide the student-entrepreneurs an actual
experience in the management of a broiler production project. Specifically, it aimed to
provide a working experience on the operation of a small-scale entrepreneurship both
in technical and marketing aspects, determine the profitability of broiler production,
provide income to the student-entrepreneurs and help the student-entrepreneurs gain
skills and values relevant in managing a broiler project.
The broiler chickens were fed with commercial feed and their drinking water
was supplemented with vitamins (electrogen, digestiade and vetracin). The project had
a mortality of 10% due to the unfavorable environment and obtained a final weight of
1.5 kg/bird at the 35 day.
In marketing, the student-entrepreneurs advertised the product through social
media, word of mouth and marketed through personal selling. The product was sold in
a live weight and dressed at P120.00/kg and P160.00/kg, respectively. The products were disposed to the residents or families in the locality and workers at Child
Development Center (compassion)
The total cost of production of the project was Php 14, 034.38 while the gross
income was Php 17,314.00. The project has a net income of Php 3,279.63. The return
on investment (ROI) of the project was 23.37%. The break-even price (BEP) of the
project was 98.52%, while the break-even yield was 116.95%
Throughout the production of the project, the student-entrepreneurs
encountered several problems namely the changes of weather and the bad odor of the
chicken manure which was quickly solved by them. Though they encountered such
problems along the project, they also gained experience and developed values and
skills. The student-entrepreneurs realized that there is an income even in a small scale.
Moreover, they developed skills and knowledge on how to manage broiler production.
Likewise, they developed the characteristics of being resourceful, wise, patient and
honest individual. Lastly, they also developed their communication as well as
management skills.
