EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
MARATA JESSICA M. and VICENTE PEARL ANGELINE T. 2019.
Broiler Production in Brgy. Tonoton, Piddig, Ilocos Norte. Practicum Terminal
Report College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development. Mariano Marcos
State University, City of Batac, 2906 Ilocos Norte, 32 pp.
Adviser: Mrs. Ethel Reynda M. Calivoso

The project on broiler production was performed to provide an actual
experience to the student-entrepreneurs in managing broiler production Specifically,
the project aimed to provide a working knowledge and understanding on the
production and operation of a small enterprise both in the technical and marketing
aspects have adequate training and practice in record keeping and preparation of cost
and return analysis; provide income to the proponents, and develop skills and values
through the different activities undertaken by the student-entrepreneurs.
The project was implemented in Brgy. Tonoton Piddig, Ilocos Norte on
February 11 to April 5, 2019. The project reared 100 heads of broilers in one cycle
which lasted for 53 days. Furthermore, the management practices employed which
include, brooding, health and waste management, and watering and feeding
management were based from UNAHCO Sarimanok Feeding Program.
In the operation of the project, ad libitum feeding was followed, and clean and
fresh drinking water was made available. For the first 15 days, chicks were fed with
chick booster. Broiler starter was provided to the birds from 16 to 264 day, while the finisher mash was given from the 27'h to 530 day. In addition, the broilers were sold
with weights ranging from 1.25 to 2.25 kg at Php 130/kg. The five percent mortality
rate was recorded for one cycle. The project generated a net income of Php 4,762.61
(GI=Php 21,450.00-TC Php 16,302.39) with an ROI of 31.54% for a cycle. The BEP
was Php 98.80 and BEY was 125.40 kg.
Problems cannot be avoided in every business-like broiler production. One of
the reasons why the chicks died is the weather condition. During the month of
February, cold weather caused the birds to chill. On the other hand, the month of
March became too hot that caused the birds to pant easily. Also, reared broilers
encountered health problems like coughing.
Values and skills were developed during the entire production of broiler.
These values include resourcefulness in constructing the house, preciseness in giving
the types and amount of feeds to birds at the stage of production Student-
entrepreneurs also learned the value of patience in cleaning the cage and removing of
manure, honesty in record keeping and being keen observer in monitoring the
symptoms of diseases as well as the appropriate medicine to be used.
