ABSTRACT AGCAOILI, LENIE L., GALUT, JIMUEL CARL D., AND QUEJA, ALAINE V., 2020. Evaluation of the Single Screen Technique (SST) for Rice Seedling Preparation for Mechanical Rice Transplanter. Undergraduate Thesis College of Engineering, Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac 2906 Ilocos Norte. Adviser: Engr. Michael N. Duldulao The study aimed to evaluate the Single Screen Technique (SST) for rice seedling preparation for mechanical rice transplanter in comparison to the existing Double Mulching Technique (DMT) and Plastic Tray Technique (PTT) using three different seed variety as factors. The study was done at the Experimental Farm of the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) from January to February 2020. The growth evaluation of the Single Screen Technique was initially analysed using Split Plot Design and further analysed using the Tukeys' Honest Significant Test (THST). The evaluated independent factor and dependent (response) parameters were the seedling vigors and transplanting efficiency. Different seed varieties (NSIC Rc 222, NSIC Rc 138, and NSIC Rc 300) was used in the study. The transplanting efficiency of the SST, DMT and PTT was 390 trays/ha. The study shows that the PTT has the highest transplanting efficiency with a value of 64.00% followed by the SST with a transplanting efficiency of 57.14%. The DMT has the lowest transplanting efficiency with a value of 30.37%. The low transplanting efficiency may be due to the soil media used which is sandy loam. The sand part o the soil could be the reason why the soil is prone to cracking during cutting, rollin and hauling. The use of the different seed varieties have no effect in the seedling vigo transplanting capacity and transplanting efficiency. The total material and laborc of the Single Screen Technique for rice seedling preparation for rice mechanical transplanter was P10.031.29 per hectare with a break-even point of 3.79 tray-hec per year. Manual transplanting costs at an average of P12,000 per hectare in Ilo Norte.
