ABSTRACT BUDUAN, LEMUEL VINCE C., and GALEON, CLYVE CRICEADE M. 2021. Perceived Ecological Impact of Development Activities in Barangay Siblong, Bucay, Abra, Undergraduate Thesis. Department of Environmental Science College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development. Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, 56 pp. Adviser: Ms. Resureccion Bernadette C. Imbat This study generally aimed to determine the perceived ccological impacts of development activities in Siblong, Bucay Abra, Specifically, this research: (a) identified the different ecosystem services of the forest to the local community of Barangay Siblong; (b) identified the existing and future development activities in the Siblong forest; and (c) determined the ecological impacts of the development activities as perceived by the respondents. The people within the relocation site were the respondents of the study. Moreover, survey questionnaire distribution were done to gather information. The study was conducted from March to May 2020. Descriptive statistical tools such as means, ranges, frequency, counts, percentages and ranks were used to analyse the data in the study. It should also be noted that a total of 169 respondents were included in the study. Most of the respondents included in the study have an age ranging from 3 to 40 years old. All of surveyed respondents are male and the majority (74%) of them are married. The highest educational attainment of the majority (47%) is secondary education. In terms of their occupation, the majority (61%) of them are farmers The results showed that the ecosystem services provided by the forest are: (a) to provide a scenic view; (b) to provide habitat refuge; and (c) to give, support for biodiversity (plants and animals and other ecosystem services. The forest also provides food production Furthermore, the existing activities that the Siblong forest have are: (a) the construction of housing units; (b) the construction of driveways: (c) the installation of electric lines, and (d) lot clearing and other activities. Also, the future development activities in the Siblong forest are: (a) to continue the construction of housing unit; and (b) continue the installation of electric lines and other activities, Based on the results of this study, the loss of vegetation is the most adverse impact of the different activities in the site to the land. As to water, the result shows that the risk of drought in dry seasons is the adverse impact of the different activities, Air pollution also has drastic changes in microclimate and it increases the magnitude and intensity of net radiation reaching the soil surface and these are considered as the adverse impact of the different activities. Lastly, all the four mentioned activities can bring natural loss, since, trees are being cut down in the site. It is recommended that the concerned personnel, the residents and the local government unit should help each other to protect the Siblong forest.
