Pagurayan The study was conducted to understand the perceived ecological impact of the eradicated riparian zone at Barangay 16 Quiling Sur, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte Specifically, it aimed to (1) determine the ecosystem services of the converted riparian zone, (2) determine the ecological impacts of the converted riparian zone and its socio- economic impact to the residents, and (3) disseminate the results to the community Data were obtained through survey questionnaire and were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The respondents were the residents living along the river. Majority of them are male, above 60 years of age, have 4 to 6 family members and have attained high school and college education The riparian zone has provided different ecosystem services in the area like provision of food and protection against natural hazards. It also serves as a recreational area and have supported various ecosystem processes like the recycling of nutrients and the germination of trees swept by the water of the river. The establishment of riparian zone along the Quiaoit River in Quiling Sur, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte had ecological impacts to the area resulting into changes in their socio-economic activities of the respondents. They were affected in terms of food, microclimate and livelihood. The study disseminated the results to the residents through pamphlet distribution to educate them on the importance of riparian zone and to create a dynamic environment friendly policies and laws by the local government units. The results of the study suggests that the LGU and the barangay should create ordinances that provides for the conservation of the riparian zone in the area to be able to maintain the ecosystem services that it provides. Environmental valuation studies are also recommended.
