POD EXTRACT AS HYPOGLYCEMIC Adviser: Ma Danica A. Ines This study on the hypoglycemic activity of String Beans (Phaseolus Vulgaris, Linn.) Pod Extract was conducted to determine the phytochemical substances present in the plant extract. Likewise, the effectiveness of the String Beans (Phaseolus Vulgaris, Linn.) Pod Extract in lowering blood glucose level of twelve albino rats was also determined. Plant extract was used in the study and their effects in lowering blood glucose level were analysed. Metformin (500mg), distilled water and string beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) pod extract were administered orally to the subjects. The blood glucose readings were monitored every 30 minutes in a period of 120 minutes. The data gathered were statistically analysed using ANOVA test. The crude pod extract is not effective after 30 and 60 minutes of administration but it is effective upon reaching 90 and 120 minutes of administration. Based on the statistical analysis of the data gathered, plant extract is an effective as the standard drug in lowering glucose level. ER -
