Undergraduate Thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, City of Batac 2906, Ilocos Norte, March 2010 WOUND HEALING PROPERTY OF WHITE STEM EXTRACT ON GUINEA PIGS (Cavia Porcellus) Adviser: Augustus Caesar C. Pati, RPh This study was conducted to determined the effects of Saniata extract in promoting wound healing. The stem samples of the plants were subjected to extraction by maceration and reflux condensation. The different constituents were determined through phytochemical screening. Meanwhile, the efficacy of Saniata extract was tested on the test animals with induced wounds. The test animals were randomly assigned to seven treatment groups: (1) negative control, (2) standard. (3) ointment base, (4) White Saniata ointment 50%, (6) Red Saniata 100%, (7) Red Saniata 50%). The healing property of the seven groups was compared. Correspondingly, the tensile strength of the groups were determined using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) and t-test. Results shows that there is no significant difference between the White Saniata Ointment as well as to their concentration (50% and 100%). The wound in all the treatments did not open when constant of 2.94 N is applied to the wound of the test animals. The use of patch method on both the White Saniata and the Red Saniata Ointment showed no visible signs of irritation to the test animals. ER -
