Gastroprotective Potential of Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract in Ethanol-Induced Ulcerations in Albino Rats Adviser: Ms. Kristian Gay Y. Dutdut The study was conducted to determine the agstroprotective potential Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract on Ethanol- induced ulcerated male Albino rats. Phytochemical Screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, antraquinones, saponins, carbohydrate and protein is Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract. Preliminary screening was done to determine the most effective dose of preliminary screening was done to determine that would exert gastroprotective in ethanol – induced ulcerated test animals. Doses of 250mg/kg, 500mg/kg and 1000mg/kg were used. Results revealed that preliminary screening was done to determine is effective as gastroprotective agent and statically, the three doses possessed no significant difference on their gastoprotective activity in ethanol-induced ulcerated albino rats. Although no significant difference existed among the three dose Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract, 1000mg/kg having the least number of measurement of lesions observed in the test animals was used in the final screening. Three treatments group were utilized in the first screening and this includes the distilled water was the negative control, 1000mg/kg Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) and Omeprazole as the positive control. statistical analysis revealed no significant difference on the gastroprotective activity between the Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract and Omeprazole. However, when compared to those treated with distilled water significant differences were observed. This means that Squash (Cucurbita Maxima) Pulp Extract and Omeprazole exerted the same gastroprotective in ethanol-induced ulcerated albino rats. And distilled water being the negative controls do not possess any gastroprotective ER -
