Mariano Marcos State University College of Engineering is currently utilizing an open-delta transformer configuration for its electrical distribution system. Despite being economical, this configuration may result in various power quality issues which could degrade the reliability of the electrical distribution system. This study aims to assess its impact on power quality. The primary objective is to determine the current power quality status and trends of the electrical distribution system. Power quality analyses used include voltage stability, transient stability, harmonic analysis, and load flow. An electrical simulation program is also used to performed power quality analysis on a closed-delta transformer configuration for comparison. After series of analyses, the researchers found out that the open-delta transformer configuration identified several deficiencies. Voltage instability was a major issue, with fluctuations often exceeding permissible limits, risking equipment damage and reduced efficiency. Current unbalance and fluctuations during transient events, along with high levels of harmonic distortion, highlighted the system's vulnerability to dynamic load changes and inefficiencies. Prolonged zero current periods during outages indicated poor system resilience, suggesting that significant improvements are needed for the open-delta configuration to meet critical reliability, efficiency, and quality standards in power distribution.
