This thesis compared the potential of utilizing powdered eggshells (PES) and
powdered seashells (PSS) as partial replacement materials for cement to enhance the
compressive strength of concrete. The primary focus of this research is evaluating the
compressive strength of concrete with 18%, 20%, and 22% of PES and PSS denoted us
FE1-3 and FS1-3 respectively, all cured in 7, 14, and 28 days. Notably, the PES
formulation attains its highest compressive strength at FE3, reaching 6.8MPa within 14
days, while the PSS achieves 9.7MPa in the FS1, within 28 days. To assess the
suitability of these mixtures for practical applications, the study compares the obtained
strengths to the standard requirement for concrete design, which is M20 grade (20
MPa). Although FE and FS formulation did not achieve the standard strength of a
conventional concrete, the results showed that PSS is a better alternative and
recommended for optimization study. In summary, this thesis provided valuable
insights into the use of PES and PSS as cement replacements, highlighting their positive
impact on concrete compressive strength and their conformity to industry standards.
These findings contribute to sustainable and cost-effective construction practices.
