The shell and tube equipment were constructed from 304 stainless steel, with a with an outside diameter of 260 mm (about 10.24 in), equipped with 44 Type 202 stainless steel tubes, with each tube being 4 feet in length, having 0.5 inch outside diameter, 0.44 inch inside diameter, and 1.5 mm thickness. The 1-4 STHE also featured tured fixed channel covers and fixed-tube sheet also constructed using 202 stainless steel sheet/tube. The layout of the tubes is arranged in 60° triangular pattern with a tube pitch of 0.75 inch and tube clearance of 0.25 inch. The tubes were supported in place by 3 baffles with spaced 12 inches between each other. Hot water at 95°C was the reference for the tube side inlet, and it leaves the STHE at 85°C. The target temperature for the water in the shell side was 50°C, from a shell inlet temperature of 25°C. Accessories such as thermocouples, pump, pipe, and hose were installed to test the STHE. Results of the study revealed that the fabricated STHE could heat the shell side fluid to a certain temperature given a certain amount of time but, the calculated average of qloss is equal to 26.86 kW and an efficiency of 52.9%.
