Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, City of Batac 2906, Ilocos Norte, March 2010. HEPATOPROTECTIVE PROPERTY OF GLYCOSIDES OBTAINED FROM THE ROOTS OF CADENA DE AMOR (ANTIGONON LEPTOPUS) POLYGONACAEAE. Adviser: Imelda B. Corpuz Dried roots of Cadena de Amor were extracted using 80% ethanol and tested for the hepatoprotective properly of glycosides obtained from the roots of Cadena de Amor. The parameters assessed were Serum Level of Glutamate Pyruvate Transminase, Serum Level of Glutamic Oxaloacetate Transiminase and Alkaline Phospatase. Liver weights of the test animals were determined as well as the changes in the body weights. IItwas observed from the morphological examination of the liver that animals treated with CCl 4 resulted in liver enlargement. The groups treated with Cadena de Amor root extract and Silymarin were comparable to each other showing same effect as that of the Silymarin in rendering protection to the liveeeers of CCl4 intoxicated rats. It was found out that Cadena de Amor roots extract possessed hepatoprotective activity in CCl4 induced liver damaged rats with regards to SGPT and SGOT levels.
