Vinluan This study was conducted to determine the insecticidal action of atis seed oil formulations (ASOFs) against head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis. It also determined the most effective concentration that produced the highest mortality in the test insect. The experimental research design was employed to study the cause and effect of different ASOFs to head lice. Atis seeds collected were pounded after it was washed and dried. It was then subjected to extraction process with the use of Soxhlet apparatus. After extraction, the extract was distilled water in order to obtain 10%, 30%, 60 % emulsifiable atis seed oil concentrates (EASOCs). Adult head lice were collected from the heads of heavily infested primary grade school children few minutes before treatment. The insects were sorted out leaving only the adult Pediculus humanus capitis. Five (5) adult head lice were placed in each Petri dish. There were five (5) treatments in 3 replications: T1-10% EASOC, T2- 30% EASOC, T3- 60% EASOC, T4- Ethanol alone and T5- control (no treatment). Results of the study revealed the different concentrations (10%, 30%, 60%) of crude atis (Anona squamosa L.) seed oil formulated as emulsifiable concentrate had significant effect against head lice. Mortality of the test insect sprayed with ASOF increased with increasing concentrations. Highest insecticidal action of the most effective formulation (60%) was observed after 15 minutes (100% mortality).
