Mera Fe B. Biralde Antipyretic effect of Sampaguita leaf extract was tested using twenty-four guinea pigs as test animals. Fresh Sampaguita leaves collected were washed with water and drained to remove adhering foreign matters. It was then subjected to extraction process through reflux method using 80% ethyl alcohol as a solvent in order to identify the phytochemical substance present in Sampaguita leaf extract, confirmatory test was done specifically screening for alkaloids and tannins. After extraction, the extract was diluted with distilled water in order to obtain 25%, 50% and 75% concentration. One hundred (100ml) of undiluted extract served as 100% pure extracts. Fever was induced to the guinea pigs using 2 ml of 15% yeast solution. Temperature changes were obtained. The procedure was done at room temperature. Statistical analysis used was analysis of variance (ANOVA). Findings shows that alkaloids and tannins are the constituents present in the Sampaguita leaf extract. It is effective in lowering the body temperature of the test animals. Findings also show that 25% concentration of the extract best exhibits the antipyretic effect.
