_aABSTRACT _bBinarao, Celian Lilet L., Co, Kristine G., Pascual, Mary Anne Q., Rabanal, Suzette T. Undergraduate thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, Batac City. October 2007. EFFICACY OF SIAMESE ROUGH BUSH (Streblush Asper) BARK EXTRACT AGAINST Trichopython Mentagrophytes. 52 pp Adviser: Ms. Kristian Gay Y. Dutdut The study investigated the efficacy of Siamese Rough Bush (Streblush Asper) Bark Extract Against Trichopython Mentagrophytes. It was conducted from August to September 2007 to determine its effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of the fungi. It was also carried out to identify active constituents present in the Siamese Rough Bush (Streblush Asper) Bark Extract through the different phytochemical screenings, the fungicidal or fungistatic effect of the extract, and if it causes skin irritations when applied to the test animals. The study made use of experimental design. Siamese Rough Bush (Streblush Asper) Bark Extract was obtained through maceration and reflux method. The bark extract was prepared into four concentrations-25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The results are statistically analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Least Significant Difference (LSD). Results of the study showed that the Siamese Rough Bush (Streblush Asper) Bark Extract contain constituents such as saponin glycosides, tannins, protein, and flavonoids. Based on the statistical analysis, results showed that 75% and 100% concentration have no significant difference with Tolnaftate (Tinactin) with regard to antigungal acvtivity. The Siamese Rough Bush (Streblush Asper) Bark Extract did not produce any skin irritation on the treated guinea pigs; therefore, it is safe for application in the skin. |
