520 _a ABSTRACT AGUILAR, MARK NOAH L., BULAN, HEIZEN JAY R., DADOY, EDWARD G.,PAGDILAO, HUGGIES P., RAZA, WILFORD C., TAGATA, IAN LEMUEL D., VILLASISTA, MARK CHRISTIAN V. 2020. Design, Fabrication and Testing of Portable Hydro-electric Generator using Horizontal Spiral Turbine. Undergraduate thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Mariano Marcos State University, Batac City, Ilocos Norte. Adviser: Engr. Vallerie Magne Questin Portable Hydro-electric Generator using a Horizontal Spiral Turbine is a device which provides electric energy and operates by itself as result of the power from the running water, which doesn't need fossil fuel to operate, it is also offers a good alternative renewable cnergy that cost-efficient and reliable way to make renewable electricity. Portable Hydro-electric Generator using a Horizontal Spiral Turbine was tested in several set-ups, before it was finally proven effective and accessible to provide electric energy to supply a single unit that compose a minimal amount of load like lamp. In an DC connection it can produce up to 1.9 V to 5.0 V and when the step-up Voltage converter is connected to the generator, the output voltage is 9.13 Volts with a speed of 464.8 rpm. The load currents ranged from 0.33 A to 1.67 A, the current is same even when the step-up voltage converter is connected. Hence, the computed power would vary depending on the voltage output that was measured, so the power ranges from 0.57 W to 4.3 W when it is directly connected on the generator and 1.94 W to 15.25 W when the step-up voltage converter is connected. The device is made of locally available materials xix that can be manufactured in a small welding shops in the locality, the device costs P9,207. The results of the study showed that the low-cost Portable Hydro-electric Generator using a Horizontal Spiral Turbine can be used as an alternative replacement to reduce the allocation of fossil fuel in our country. The device is simple and easy to operate which do not have the same kinds of adverse effect on the local environment as a Large-Scale Hydro.
