Danica Ines-Ramil Co-Adviser: Janelyn Viado-Rojas In the Philippines, one of the major concerns of the Filipinos is how to make their skin glow and fairer. More and more researches are popularizing whitening products which are abundant in nature and can be obtained and utilized for a very minimal cost. This study deals with the potential of Kauayan Vinegar Lotion (KVL) as skin lightener. Moreover, this study was initiated in order to find an alternative for the high-priced lightener today. The study used experimental method as research design. The Kauayan vinegar was provided by the Ilocos Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC) and it was formulated as a lotion. This was applied to guinea pigs for its hypoallergenic testing. The result showed there was no irritation of the skin. Then, the KVL was applied at the back of human panellists for 24 days (at night) to determine its effectiveness. The data gathered was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) for its statistical analysis. The findings of the study showed that application of KVL to skin has the ability to lighten the skin as it changes the skin tonicity after the treatment. Based on statistical analysis, measurement of the skin tone in the Bamboo vinegar lotion is the same as compared to that of commercial skin white lotion. it also revealeda significant difference of KVL when compared to negative control treatment. Therefore, the KVL has the potential to lighten the skin. To further validate the study findings, it is recommended that other test controls should be considered.
