Depressive disorders are among the most common diseases in humans, with the approximately 11.3% of all adults afflicted during any 1 year. This study now was conducted to evaluate the anti-depressant like effect of the essential oil obtained from the flower of Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata). It utilized the experimental method in the conduct of the study. Moreover, this study was done in order to find a cheaper anti-depressant drug. The anti-depressant effect of Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) flower extract was tested on albino 18 albino rats. The albino rats were subjected to the negative control group. The test animals were randomly assigned to the negative control group. The test animals were randomly assigned to the treatment group. Force swimming test and CNs stimulant test were performed to determine the possible anti-depressant effect of the Ylang-ylang flower extract the anti-depressant activity of three treatment groups were compared. The significant differences of the anti-depressant activity of the different treatment groups were determined through a two-way mean and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Result showed that the Ylang-ylang flower extract is effective ant-depressant and it has no significant difference with the Flouxotine. The negative control did not interfere with anti-depressant activity.
