_bCABRERA, KRISTIE ANNE I., DELOS SANTOS, JHELLY N., MALAZZAB, SHARABELLE B., Undergraduate Thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, City of Batac 2906, Ilocos Norte. October 2008. THE HAIR GROWTH PROMOTION OF SUGOD-SUGOD (Momordica conchinchinensis) ROOT EXTRACT ON GUINEA PIGS (Cavia porcellus). Adviser: Mr. Augustus Caesar C. Pati This study was investigated the folkloric activity of Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract as hair growth promoter. The study made used of twenty (20) guinea pigs (ten male and ten female) and divided into five groups; positive control Minoxidil (Regroe), a commercially prepared hair growth promoter; of Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract in different concentrations-100% and 50%, and the fifth group is the negative control which is the alcohol. The presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, proteins, carbohydrates, and saponins in the of Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract was determined in the phytochemical screening. The different concentrations of Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract have significant difference compared to the negative control, alcohol. The 100% Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract which is the most effective among the three concentrations is comparable to the positive control, Minoxidil (Regroe). One way ANOVA with no blocking was used in the interpretation and analysis of the result of the experiment and the gathered data to determine the differences among the five groups trated with different solution namely; Minoxidil (Regroe), 100% Sugud-sugod root extract, 75% Sugud-sugod root extract, 50% Sugud-sugod root extract and alcohol. This study proved that the Sugud-sugod (Momordica conchinchinensis) root extract was able to promote the growth of hair of the guinea pigs.
