_bBAGASOL, HAZEL T., CAMPAÑANO, SUERTE JOY R., RAYMUNDO, ELIZALDIE G. Undergraduate Thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, City of Batac. March 2010. ACID-NEUTRALIZING CAPACITY AND ANTI-ULCER PROPERTY OF IKMO (Piper bettle L) LEAVES CRUDE EXTRACT Adviser: Ma. Danica A. Ines The IKMO (Piper bettle L) Leaves Crude Extract has been evaluated for its ability to protect gastric lesions of stomach in ethanol-induced ulcerated female guinea pigs. The study was conducted to confirm the different constituents present in the plant sample through phytochemical screening. The in-vitro testing was done to validate the presence of antacid property of the samples. The plant sample was compared to the acid neutralizing capacity of Ranitidine which is the positive control. as a result, there is a significant difference between the samples as antacids but Ikmo plant sample is not as effective as the positive control, the Ranitidene. Dose of 300mg/kg was used in anti-ulcer effectiveness to determine its property to protect gastric mucosal lining. The result indicated that there is a highly significant difference among the three treatments-T1- negative control (distilled water), T2- positive control (Ranitidine) and T3- 300mg/kg of the Ikmo (Piper bettle L.) leaves crude extract in their anti-ulcer property in the ethanol ulcerated female guinea pigs. It was found that the positive control (Ranitidine) possess the most effective anti-ulcer agent. However, the Ikmo (Piper bettle L.) leaves crude extract shows a comparable effect in protecting and treating stomach lesions as the positive control, while the negative control has no healing activity.
