Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, Batac, Ilocos Norte. October 2008. Hepatoprotective Action of Saluyot (Corchorus Capsularis) Leaf Extract in Ethanol-Induced Hepatotoxicity Adviser: Mr. Rhian Jaymar D. Ramil Many plants are found in the Philippines which are considered as one of the country’s prominent wealth. Local people and even health care practitioners have been widely using herbal medications because of its economic value and their belief in curing the natural way. One of these plants is Saluyot (Corchorus Capsularis). This plant is very abundant in our locality and has been known for it’s folkloric uses aside from the fact that it is one of favourite dishes. This study investigated the potential hepatoprotective action of Saluyot (Corchorus Capsularis) leaf extract. The dosage used as hepatoprotective comparable to the standard drug, Sylimarin, exhibits almost the same action as they inhibit similar hepatoprotective action against the hepatotoxic effect of paracetamol. The experimental research design was employed to gather data for the study of the hepaprotective activity of the Saluyot plant. The active constituents of the plant were also identified which attributes to the hepatoprotective activity of the plant through confirmatory tests.
