_bABELLON, MAS., BAYAN, MAJA., RARALIO, SS., SILVESTRE, MEA. . Undergraduate Thesis. Mariano Marcos State University, College of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, 2906 City of Batac, March 2014. Effect of Dragonfruit (Hylocereus spp) to the Blood Uric Acid Level in Humans Adviser: Franklin V. Ibana Dragonfruit (Hylocereus spp) have received much attention from growers in the country especially in the province. However, not much local studies was conducted yet about the plant and its fruit. The present study evaluate the effect of Dragon fruit in the blood uric acid level of humans. The extractwas subjected to phytochemical screening (Murexide Test) in which it was found to be positive for the presence of purine alkaloids which is responsible for the increase in the blood uric acid level of the subjects. In determining the effect, an experimental research method laid out in a pre test and post test design was used. It included the screening and collection of blood from the subjects and analysis of the blood samples to determine the blood uric acid level. Treatment 1 which consisted of 400 g, Treatment 2 which consisted of 600 g, Treatment 3 which consisted of 800 g and control in which there were no dragon fruit administered was given for eight days. Each treatment group was composed of nine subjects each. Dargon fruit was found to increase the blood uric acid level of the subjects. Treatment 1 (400 g) Treatment 2 (600 g) and Treatment 3 (800 G) EXHIBITED EFFECTS IN THE BLOOD URIC ACID LEVEL. NEVERTHELESS, Treatment 2 showed a farther increase that Treatment 1 and Treatment 3 exerted the greatest among all treatment groups. The difference between the mean increase of blood uric levels among the treatment groups were found to be statistically significant as evaluated by Analysis of Variance and T-test for equality of means.
