Existing literature extensively investigated the characteristics and impacts of E10 gasoline; however, a substantial void existed in the absence of compliance assessments during storage at fuel stations. Addressing this deficiency, this study, conducted in the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, rigorously examined the storage and handling effects on E10 blends. Employing analytical testing by following the ASTM methods provided in the standard and descriptive analysis using a quantitative method, nine samples out of 21 underwent meticulous examination. From the analytical testing, none of the samples met the established standard, with at least three critical characteristics failing to meet the requirements. Although some samples satisfied criteria such as color, density, and distillation temperature, not all adhered to standards regarding appearance, lead content, water content, and percent residue. The survey component of the study identified ethanol absorption of water as a primary concern among respondents, accompanied by the absence of post-assessment distribution testing. These findings from both analytical testing and surveys are corroborative, rendering the samples non-compliant with established standards. Moreover, the investigation revealed systemic deficiencies in fuel testing and storage management across all fuel stations. Action is recommended to safeguard fuel integrity, emphasizing the implementation of policies governing the storage management of E10 gasoline in Underground Tanks (UGTs). Such measures are indispensable for ensuring compliance with standards and upholding public health and environmental sustainability amidst escalating concerns regarding fuel quality and safety.
